Journalist Daniel Müksch accompanied Boris Becker on his way for a long time – and knows the sore points of the tennis legend. BUNTE.de he betrayed her.

If there’s one thing you can definitely assume about Boris Becker, it’s healthy self-confidence. Even after bankruptcy and a prison sentence, the 55-year-old goes through life with his head held high. Life was not always easy for the tennis legend either, as journalist Daniel Müksch explains in an interview with BUNTE.de.

Boris Becker: Five fateful moments that shaped the tennis star

At the age of 17, Boris Becker achieved something that nobody had done before. He went down in history in 1985 as the youngest winner of the legendary Wimbledon tournament. The journalist Daniel Müksch counts this glorious triumph as the first fateful moment in the life of the native of Leimer. According to the tennis star’s long-time companion, the second followed 14 years later when his father Karl-Heinz Becker died of cancer. “That’s when you noticed that something was happening to him. To this day, Boris Becker hasn’t found someone like his father again,” said the expert. Although the exceptional athlete also had a close relationship with the father of his later partner Alessandra Meyer-Wölden (40), Axel Meyer-Wölden also died in 1997 at the age of only 56 – which was also a turning point for the Grand Slam champion was. Boris’ world was shaken for the fourth time in 2001 by the divorce from his first wife Barbara (56): “I think Barbara often gave him exactly the support he needed. That he lost it was definitely also a turning point,” explains Müksch. Last but not least, the time in the British prison was of course formative for the son of Elvira Pisch (87). “I do believe that he was reflecting and thinking behind bars. I believe that too, that he was interested in other things. He’s someone who looks for other influences and lets them get to him. Sometimes I have the feeling they just don’t do that much,” sums up Becker’s former confidante (below with Becker in the photo), who comes to the conclusion: “Boris’ remorse simply stops too soon. One doesn’t have the feeling that the prison penalty a real rethinking has taken place”.

Boris Becker’s greatest weakness “is his resistance to advice”

When it comes to Becker’s personality traits, Daniel Müksch names Becker’s fighting spirit and strong nerves as positively outstanding. “He has incredible resilience,” says the journalist. But like everyone else, the tennis legend also has flaws. The greatest weakness of the polarizing world star is “definitely his resistance to advice. He doesn’t let himself be talked into it and is convinced that his view is the right one. If he has something in mind, then he does it like this. On the tennis court that was often true. In life after that, he should have taken a lot more advice.”
