Already on the second day of the grass Grand Slam in Wimbledon there was an extremely strange scene. During the match between Grigor Dimitrov and Sho Shimabukuro on one of the outdoor courts, two climate activists stormed the lawn and caused an interruption. They threw orange colored confetti and jigsaw puzzle pieces onto the lawn in protest at the UK government’s oil, gas and coal projects, and also wore shirts with the slogan of their protest group ‘Just Stop Oil’. This almost unhindered protest is strange, especially given the fact that the Wimbledon organizers have again strengthened the security concept before the start of the tournament in order to prevent such protest actions – in this case without success.
