Ben Foster Questions Manchester United’s Decision to Spend Big on Andre Onana

Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster, who once defended Manchester United, questioned the Red Devils’ decision to spend big to get Andre Onana.

Manchester United kicked out De Gea Deep down in his pocket for Onana A waste of money?

WHAT HAPPENED?

Erik ten Hag is prioritizing new goalkeepers in the summer transfer window after offloading veteran goalkeeper David de Gea at the end of his contract. Andre Onana was also named as his successor, with Manchester United signing the Cameroon star from Inter Milan for £47m.

Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster understands why The Red Devils wanted a keeper who was good with his feet to distribute the ball, but felt the funds should be invested in improving other aspects of Ten Hag’s squad.

THEY SAID:

Foster spoke to The United Stand on Onana: “It’s no secret that he is a very, very modern goalkeeper, and nowadays it is needed. If Manchester United want to go forward and develop themselves, they have to sign Onana. The fact is that it’s that simple. It’s up to the other players to adapt to that, to being able to constantly build from behind and see it move forward like sweeper-keeper true.”

“I’ve seen him play and he positions himself very forward, very comfortable moving forward with the ball. We’ll see [apakah rekan-rekannya siap dengan itu]. It’s an interesting thing but in my opinion, it seems like it’s the right choice.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE:

Nevertheless, Foster still questioned the Red Devils’ budget allocation and shared opinions about how United should solve their goalkeeper problems.

It added: “[Tapi] my personal view is that i will keep David for another season. He has been offered a one-year contract so he could stay. The £47 million could have been better spent elsewhere. But this is how it is, we have to look to the future and it looks like a good signing anyway.”

“David has done very well, given the pressure and expectations when you play goalkeeper for Manchester United. It’s a very difficult job. If you can guarantee [tampil dengan] 6/10 or 7/10 every week like David does, it’s worth it.”

“Onana is a very confident player, I saw her perform Cruyff turn and other rumbles. But it only takes once or twice for him to make a fatal blunder. Because of that you feel maybe you shouldn’t be weird. Hopefully he can step on the gas straight away but sometimes it’s not that easy.”
