Basketball: Proceedings against Karim Jallow

Basketball champion ratiopharm Ulm has criticized the actions of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) regarding the initiation of proceedings against Karim Jallow. “As a club, we have not received any official information so far,” said sports director Thorsten Leibenath in a club announcement on Thursday: “Neither NADA nor the DBB (German Basketball Association; ed.) have informed us.”

Rather, Jallow (26), on which NADA checks the correct compliance with the standards for reporting obligations from the season before last, informed the club.

“Furthermore, we are not involved in the proceedings and are therefore not in a position to make any further comments,” Leibenath continued: “However, we are surprised that NADA is informing the media about ongoing proceedings, naming the name, without the it has already been made clear whether there has been a breach of the reporting obligation at all.”

NADA counts Karim Jallow in the RTP (Registered Test Pool) category. This pool includes athletes with squad status from a national sports association. Everyone who belongs to this national test pool must state quarterly in advance where they can be found for one hour per day for a test. The time slot must be between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. and also applies to free time or holidays. Jallow “confirmed when asked that he was met several times in the past season for doping tests, all of which were negative,” explained the BBL champion.

NADA confirmed a report by the Bild newspaper to the SID on Wednesday, according to which there were three failures to report and control within twelve months. Depending on the outcome of the proceedings, the 26-year-old could face a ban of up to two years.

Jallow had celebrated Ulm’s first basketball championship in mid-June, with an average of 11.3 points, the forward was the best German scorer in his team.
