The outbreak would affect between 10 and 15 footballers, although the club has not given further details.
“An important part of the squad is affected by a viral gastroenteritis”, says Barça. One of them is Jules Kounde, who on Friday trained apart from his teammates, precisely because of stomach problems.
Barça tried to reschedule the match for another day, but it was not possible and in the end both the clubs and the organization decided to cancel it. The match against Juve was the debut of Xavi Hernández’s team in the pre-season. The duel corresponds to the Soccer Champions Tour 2023, an initiative that brings some of the best European soccer teams to the United States and was supposed to be played at Levi’s Stadium, where the San Francisco 49ers of the American Football League (NFL) regularly play.
It was supposed to be a day trip to Santa Clara, a city on the San Francisco Bay, as the Catalan team planned to fly there this morning from Los Angeles and return after the game. In this way, Barça’s debut will be on Thursday morning (4.30 am, Catalan time) against Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The North American tour includes two more matches. One against Real Madrid, on Saturday the 29th (11 p.m., Catalan time) at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, and the last against Milan, on Wednesday, August 2 in the morning (5 a.m., Catalan time) at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
