Bally Sports Fails to Align with Suns and Mercury’s New Regional Broadcast Deal, Putting NBA on the Brink of Bankruptcy

NBA – On the brink of bankruptcy, Bally Sports ultimately failed to align with the Suns and Mercury’s new regional broadcast deal.

In search of “spectacular” on the ground, Mat Ishbia has also decided to disrupt the broadcast of Suns (NBA) and Mercury (WNBA) matches from next season.

In April, the new owner announced that with the end of the agreement with Bally Sports Arizona, the Suns’ matches in 2023/2024 would be broadcast over the air, and therefore free of charge, in Phoenix, Tucson and Yuma. As well as in streaming, via Kiswe, for the youngest who, more connected on tablets, computers and telephones, do not have a television. An option that would be paid against.

A decision that came as the Bally Sports network was on the verge of bankruptcy. Nevertheless, justice had blocked the new agreement, recalling that despite the difficulties of Bally Sports, the company had a right of first refusal which allowed it to align itself with the new contract.

Finally, The Athletic reveals

that it has not done so and the development of the new offer can continue.

Very good news for Mat Ishbia, proud to announce 2.8 million households in Arizona will be able to access Suns and Mercury matches for free. A financial loss all the same in the short term, but an exposure bonus which could prove to be profitable in the medium and long term, especially given the ambitions of the club.
