Anna Elendt missed the final over 100 meters breaststroke

Medal hopeful Anna Elendt was completely surprisingly eliminated in the preliminary heat of the swimming world championships in Japan. On Monday, the breaststroker finished 19th in the 100m with a time of 1:07.09 minutes, missing out on the semi-finals.

Elendt had traveled to Fukuoka as the World Championship runner-up on this route. Completely frustrated, the 21-year-old did not want to comment on her early departure. At the German championships in Berlin, she suffered a thigh strain a good two weeks ago. Whether she was still affected remained open.

One day after her seventh place over 400 meters, freestyle specialist Isabel Gose swam over 1500 meters in fifth place in the final. The 21-year-old struck after 15:59.67 minutes.

Braunschweig completely exhausted

Backstroke swimmer Ole Braunschweig reached the 100-meter semifinals in sixth place in 53.57 seconds. Completely exhausted, the 25-year-old Berliner had to sit down in the interview zone. “It has to be like this,” he said. “If you couldn’t push yourself that hard at a World Cup, something would have gone wrong.”

Rafael Miroslaw also made it into the top 16 in the 200m freestyle. Lukas Märtens, on the other hand, did not start on this route – contrary to what was originally planned. The 21-year-old only won bronze over double the distance on Sunday.

Märtens now wants to recover and focus on the 800 and 1500 meter races. The heat over 800 meters takes place on Tuesday (from 3.30 a.m./CEST). In the race, open water double world champion Florian Wellbrock also intervenes in the pool for the first time. On Monday evening (local time, 1:00 p.m. CEST), breaststroke swimmer Lucas Matzerath has a chance of winning a medal over 100 meters.
