Ann Wauters sees head coach James Wade leave Chicago Sky for Toronto Raptors | WNBA

In the middle of the WNBA season, Chicago Sky has lost its head coach: James Wade, also the club’s general manager, is stepping down to become an assistant for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA. Assistant Emre Vatansever takes over, Ann Wauters and Tonya Edwards remain as assistant coaches.

Chicago Sky won the WNBA with Wade (47) in 2021. In 4 seasons his winnings record is 74-50. Of 12 teams, Chicago is 6th this season after 16 games.

His departure is surprising. And yet another loss of talent in Chicago, which saw toppers Courtney Vandersloot, Cancade Parker and Azura Stevens leave in the mid-season. Emma Meesseman and Julie Allemand chose not to play WNBA with Sky in 2023.

Wade had 3 assistants at Chicago. Vatansever takes over the role of Wade, Ann Wauters remains assistant, but gets a bigger role.

Ann Wauters.
