Angels Manager Phil Nevin Suspended and Fined for Outburst Against Umpire

Major League Baseball (MLB) announced the one-game suspension of Angels manager Phil Nevin, who went crazy complaining to the home umpire for a strikeout he did not consider legal.

In addition to Nevin’s game on Saturday, MLB added a fine in an undisclosed amount for his actions after Friday’s game against the Blue Jays. Even as the official was about to leave the field of play, the Halos boss tried to pounce on him.

Nevin showed his frustration over a decision by umpire Mike Estabrook in the ninth inning. Michael Stefanic, who replaced Shohei Ohtani as pinch hitter after the Japanese left the game with cramps in both legs, worked his way to a full count against Toronto closer Jordan Romano.

With the bases loaded, he let go of a pitch that appeared to be off the plate but was called strike three.

Phil Nevin did not like the decision and expressed his dissatisfaction from the bench. After the game was over, Nevin yelled at Estabrook as the umpire walked off the field near the Angels’ dugout and had to be restrained by bench coach Ray Montgomery.

All of that happened as the staff left the field following the Angels’ 1-4 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.
