After barely one match, the fans had to be appeased. Anderlecht didn’t help themselves by starting the season badly. “The first half was unacceptable,” the players realized. Trainer Brian Riemer, however, was not worried: “A big disappointment? Those are big words.”
Fortunately for Brian Riemer, he has remained positive.
Last season, the Danish coach of Anderlecht always saw the glass as half full and this year is no different. After the false start at Union, Riemer refused to dramatize the defeat.
“A great disappointment? Those are big words,” he soothed DAZN – the successor to Eleven Sports.
“We lost 2-0 against a team that was almost champion last season, hey. Of course we had come for a result, but we lacked courage in the first half. We lacked quality when we played the ball deep and it went all too slow.”

Riemer saw that things went better for his team after the break.
“Only football can be cruel. Kasper (Dolberg, ed.) Misses an open shot on the one hand and Union gets a penalty on the other,” sighed the Dane, who emphasized again that he is not concerned after the season opener.
“This was match 1 of 30. We are not happy, but we are not going to get nervous. I am sure it will be a great season.”
Anders Dreyer: “First half unacceptable”
“The first half was unacceptable,” said Anders Dreyer. “In the first game of the season you can’t play like we did. It had to be better and we showed that after the break. Then we managed to get Union into trouble.”
“We have to build on that second half. Look, this is not how we wanted to start the season for our fans. But now we have a good week until our next game. Then we want to give the supporters three points at home. We should not dwell on this for too long, but must continue.”
“That there will be another difficult match against Antwerp next week? That is every match in Belgium. We will have to be 100% and not 90% like today, because then everyone will punish us.”
