Former Netherlands international goalie Edwin van der Sar is back home after suffering a brain hemorrhage. The 52-year-old was transferred from Croatia to a Dutch hospital on Friday, where he is being treated in intensive care. This was announced by Van der Sars, longtime club Ajax Amsterdam, on behalf of his wife Annemarie on Saturday. Nothing has changed in the condition of the ex-professional, he is not in mortal danger and is communicative.
In the statement, the van der Sar family expressed their “deep thanks” to the University Hospital in Split for the “great care over the last week”. Van der Sar will remain in intensive care for the time being. The family expressed their hope that he could then focus on his recovery.

Ajax announced a week ago that van der Sar had suffered a brain hemorrhage and was in intensive care. As reported by the newspaper De Telegraaf, the former world-class goalkeeper suffered a brain hemorrhage while on holiday in Croatia. He was taken to a clinic by rescue helicopter from a Croatian island.
After a disappointing season, van der Sar resigned from his position as Ajax CEO on June 1st. After almost eleven years in the management, he was empty, he wanted to calm down and distance himself, he said. Ajax had not won a title in the past season.
