Aita Game Reinvented: More Spectacular and Combative than Ever

Two longer beats instead of three short ones, a maximum age limit and a more combative style, as in antiquity. The Aita game is renewed to become even more engaging, in view of the game that will close the Festa del duke, scheduled from 11 to 14 August. “We are introducing three innovations to make it more spectacular, safe and close to the spirit it originally had – explains Gianluca Ceravolo, technical organizer -. We have set a maximum age limit of 55 years, to reduce the risk of accidents. There is then a return to the two halves, which will be 20-25 minutes: the match is very tiring and we players would risk arriving at the third fraction exhausted, making it less interesting, moreover we have seen that a match structured in two parts involves the public more As for the style of play, it is now much more marked by wrestling, taking elements from disciplines such as judo and ju-jitsu, than rugby. We are trying to bring Aita towards a real martial art because, after all, it was born as a martial game, simulating the melee that could be found on the battlefield.Combining the style of fighting with some residual rugby moves, everything will become spectacular: we will still have rugby players competing, but for the most part we will be fighters. Speaking of the players, there was a great response to the call for participation launched in 2022. I’m happy that many asked to be there, including several from the Marche region, from the province and beyond, someone from Romagna and the usual group arriving from Terracina”. Aita will have a guest of honor to open and preside over the match. This year it will be Lucia Morico, Marotta’s judoka who in the 2000s won medals at the Olympics, European Championships, Mediterranean Games and the Universiade “We are very pleased to have a woman also in sport – comments Francesca Crespini, president of the Ars Urbino ducale, the organizing association -. We will award her as a prize “La picena“, a statuette created by the master Pino Mascia, which represents a woman holding a broken javelin, as a sign of peace. We will also give it to Ilvo Diamanti, at the opening of the Festa del duca”. Crespini then gives some previews regarding the event and the leitmotif of the shows: “The evening ones will focus on the plane and the sky, we will see if we dedicate them to astrology or Ottaviano Ubaldini della Carda, because we will talk about planets and stars. Not surprisingly, we will have one of vertical dance in the buildings, with two dancers suspended in the air. There will no longer be street performances, but music around the historic centre, then a collaboration with the Art Institute, artistic and play installations, markets and inns. The central moment will be the staging at the Doge’s Palace of “La giostra del duca”, a production created for us by Umberto Piersanti, with Paolo Ruffini”.
