After nineteenth place, De Vries is disappointed with changed circumstances and a mistake | GP Great Britain

After qualifying for the British Grand Prix, Nyck de Vries felt that there was more to it than nineteenth place. The 28-year-old AlphaTauri driver expects a difficult race.

De Vries started the qualifying session well on Saturday, but the cards were actually shuffled again by a code red situation, caused by a stalling Kevin Magnussen. After the restart, the track was a lot drier, effectively turning Q1 into a one-lap shoot-out.

At the moment suprême there was no stunt in it. “We set a good time at first, but in the end it had to happen on the last lap. My tires were very cold and I didn’t have enough confidence to attack the track.”

De Vries also did not drive flawlessly, he acknowledged. “In the last corner I braked and lost a lot of time. We were competitive during the session. Our last lap was not representative of the full session. But we didn’t get it done when it really mattered.”

Our compatriot, who has not yet taken a single World Cup point in his debut year in the premier class of motorsport, was half a second slower than his teammate Yuki Tsunoda. The Japanese qualified seventeenth.

“It will be tough tomorrow. It’s a circuit with a lot of fast parts, so overtaking and following will be difficult. A little rain would be welcome, because it offers opportunities.”
