Aena has awarded the contract for the supply of electricity from 100% renewable energy for all the centers managed by the company to Endesa and Iberdrola for the next five years.

The objective of this contract is to carry out the procedures related to the purchase of energy with 100% renewable certificates of origin for the airports, as well as the management of the production of the photovoltaic plants in a self-consumption regime that, gradually, will be incorporated into the airport network.

The electricity supply points have been grouped into seven lots for allocation based on their geographical location. Endesa will supply the centers grouped into five lots, while Iberdrola will supply electricity to the Low Voltage facilities.

The offer at a fixed price for five years for the lot of the Region of Murcia International Airport is rejected because it is not competitive and only this airport will be re-tendered.

In this contract, a percentage of consumption has been established at a fixed price for five years, with the purpose of mitigating the risk of market volatility. The percentage finally selected is 36% of the total annual consumption of 2024.

This percentage will increase as the new photovoltaic plants come into service. In this way, the energy cost will be stabilized, which will be reflected in the reduction of the electricity bill.
