With heat and the road wet from a downpour, the fourteenth stage of the Tour had to stop due to a massive fall in the first kilometres. Several dozen runners have slipped after a Lotto team cyclist slipped. The doctors could not cope and the direction of the race has decided to stop the competition for almost half an hour to treat the injured.
In principle, the most affected is the Catalan Antonio Pedrero, from Movistar, who has had to be transferred to a hospital by ambulance. Another of those involved in the accident, the Frenchman Petit, continues in the race despite the cuts he has on a buttock and a calf. South African Meintjes, who was fighting for a place in the top-10, retired with a broken clavicle.
The fourteenth stage is one of the decisive ones of the Tour, with three first class climbs and the ascent to Joux Plaine before the dangerous descent that leads to the finish line of Morzine.
