Xavi Criticizes Mourinho: Coaches Should Be An Example

Barcelona

Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez criticized Jose Mourinho’s actions after the 2023 Europa League Final. According to him, Mourinho should have been wiser.

The Europa League final ended bitterly for Mourinho and the AS Roma players. Having excelled first, Roma finally had to admit Sevilla’s superiority on penalties.

The results of the match at the Puskas Arena, Budapest, tarnished Mourinho’s perfect record in European finals. Naturally, Mourinho was annoyed, especially because the leadership of referee Anthony Taylor was considered incompetent.

Because, Taylor did not give a penalty or violation if the Sevilla players did. Mourinho even went so far as to swear at Taylor in the parking lot at the stadium.

Mourinho’s action also triggered AS Roma fans to act out of line when targeting Taylor and his family at the Budapest Airport arena.

Therefore, Mourinho is threatened with a two-match ban and a large fine. This situation was observed by Xavi Hernandes as coach.

According to Xavi, Mourinho has gone too far and it is better to be sanctioned for the sake of giving a deterrent effect.

“We have to be an example for everyone, because the coach shouldn’t insult,” Xavi said Brand.

“Attitude is important and I hope it won’t damage that image.”
