Wildfires: Two baseball games in New York and Philadelphia are postponed

NEW YORK — Major League Baseball authorities have postponed games scheduled in New York and Philadelphia on Wednesday night due to poor air quality caused by smoke from raging wildfires in Canada.

A Women’s National Soccer League game in New Jersey and a Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) game, scheduled to be played at an arena in Brooklyn, were also postponed due to foggy conditions that aroused the concern of the health authorities.

The New York Yankees’ game scheduled for Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox will be played Thursday in a doubleheader starting at 4:05 p.m. The matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Detroit Tigers has been rescheduled for Thursday at 6:05 p.m. Originally, these two clubs were to have Thursday off.

“These postponements were issued following conversations throughout the day with medical and meteorological experts and all the clubs concerned about the clearly dangerous air quality conditions in the two cities,” said the authorities. Major League Baseball in a press release.
