Viktor Axelsen withdraws from major tournament in Singapore due to muscle injury

A muscle injury has put Viktor Axelsen out of action for longer than first thought.

Viktor Axelsen will not be ready for next week’s tournament in Singapore, as he had otherwise hoped for. It is the second year in a row that he has missed that tournament. This is stated by the Danish badminton player on Twitter.

“Unfortunately, I will miss the Singapore Open again this year. I had been looking forward to finally playing in front of the badminton fans in Singapore, but unfortunately my leg is not quite ready yet,” writes Axelsen.

Thus, he is not in next week’s Super 750 tournament in Singapore. He also writes that he is betting on playing the tournament next year.

Axelsen was injured during the WC for mixed teams, Sudirman Cup, two weeks ago. He hopes to be ready in mid-June.

“On the positive side, the rehab is going well and there is still hope that I can be ready for the Indonesia Open,” says Axelsen.

The Indonesia Open is a Super 1000 tournament which will be played from 13 to 18 June. It is one of the biggest tournaments of the year.
