Verstappen reigns in Montmeló in a race with no options for Sainz and Alonso

The Dutch driver Max Verstappen (Red Bull) has confirmed his leadership in the Formula 1 World Championship after winning this Sunday with absolute superiority the Spanish Grand Prix, the seventh event of the World Championship, ahead of the improved Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, with Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) fifth and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) seventh.

Verstappen remains unstoppable, with his fifth win of the season in seven races, third in a row after those in Miami and Monaco, and strengthens his lead in a championship he seems to have under control. And the podium was completed by the two Mercedes, with a great improvement and including Russell’s comeback, from 12th position on the grid to the third drawer of the podium.

For his part, Carlos Sainz could not retain second place in the ‘qualy’ and suffered a lot to contain the Mercedes and ‘Checo’ Pérez (Red Bull), who passed him at the end of the straight in a meeting where Ferrari did not stand out for its top speed. Worse was Fernando Alonso, who gained a place from the start but was too far from the leader, in his worst result of the championship.
