As in the previous year, Veronika Kudermetova defeated Aryna Sabalenka in Berlin.
Veronika Kudermetova dominated the match from the beginning and started with a quick 4:0 lead. Without losing any more serves, the 26-year-old secured the first round.
In the second act, Kudermetova started again with a break and was able to transport this to a 4:2 lead. Sabalenka was able to hit back and decide the set in the tie-break. There Kudermetova dominated from the first point and triumphed 6:2, 7:6 (2) after 1:39 hours of play.

In the quarter-finals, Kudermetova, who is in 10th place in the WTA rankings, meets her compatriot Ekaterina Alexandrova, who surprisingly easily defeated US-American Coco Gauff, who was number 5, 6:4, 6:0. The two players faced each other in the final in s’Hertogenbosch in the last week of the tournament, where Alexandrova narrowly triumphed in the tie-break of the third round.
