Van Vleuten will defend the ‘pink jersey’ in the Giro at the helm of a powerful Movistar Team

MADRID, 27 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Dutch cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten, three-time winner and defending champion, will lead the Movistar Team in the upcoming Giro d’Italia Donne, which takes place between June 30 and July 9 and will have a brief initial time trial in Chianciano Terme, to finish in Olbia after four days in the middle of the mountains included.

Van Vleuten, the current winner of the women’s Giro, leads a telephone team led by Jorge Sanz and Jürgen Roelandts that will have their other great reference, the German Liane Lippert.

In addition, the Spanish Sara Martín and Sheyla Gutiérrez, the Colombian Paula Patiño, the Dutch Floortje Mackaij and the French Aude Biannic complete the ‘seven’ of the Movistar Team for this Italian round.

The Dutch van Vleuten, winner of seven grand tours, will seek the eighth on a route without major ascents and that will start with a brief 4-kilometre time trial in Chianciano.

Of course, this Giro will be a ‘leg-breaker’ with four decisive days of medium mountains in which the race will be decided a priori. On Saturday 1, in the second stage, the Passo della Colla (2nd category) will be overcome before the Marradi finish line.

The fifth stage is expected to be more important, on Tuesday the 4th with a 2,500-meter drop in just 105 kilometres, and the sixth and seventh days, with the high finishes in Canelli and Alassio. All this before reaching the finish line in Olbia on the 9th after 126 practically flat kilometers.
