US congressmen call for action against Mexico for policy against transgenic corn – El Sol de México

A group of more than 60 United States congressmen asked the government of that country to initiate actions against Mexico within the framework of the T-MEC by federal government policies on the importation of transgenic corn.

In a letter sent to the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), Congressmen agreed that Mexico must assume the commitments agreed in the T-MEC.

They remembered that The United States expressed its disagreement for the discriminatory measures that the Mexican government adopted ban imports of transgenic corn.

The Joe Bien government requested a period of technical consultations, but the document sent to the ambassador Katherine Thai, head of the USTR accuses the inaction of the authorities on the subject.

Failure to act creates a dangerous precedent that promises made under USMCA and other trade agreements by extension, can be ignored without consequence,” the document says.

Congressmen urged USTR to proceed “immediately with a formal USMCA dispute to defend the livelihoods of American farmers.”
