National University Championships 2023: the UniTo delegation triumphs
The athletes of the University of Turin win 26 medals at the National University Championships which took place in Camerino from 17 to 25 June: 12 golds, 4 silvers and 10 bronzes
The 76th edition of Spring National University Championships, hosted from 17 to 25 June by the Marche city of Camerino, gave exceptional results to the delegation of the University of Turin. From athletics to rugby, through football and combat sports (judo, wrestling, fencing), the success of UniTo athletes is transversal: they win well 26 medalsthus contributing substantially to the triumph of Turin University team of the CUS Turin, who takes home a total of 32 and conquers the first place in the medal table.
12 gold medals: in athletics Sara Verteramo (SUISM) won in shot put and Gioele Buzzanca (SUISM) in discus throwing; Lisa Galvagni (Mathematics) wins in the women’s 60 kg category, Francesco Gorgone (SUISM) in the freestyle cat. 120 kg and Giuseppe Christian Caniglia (SUISM) in Greco-Roman wrestling cat. 70kg; in judo awarded Francesco Cargnelutti (International Sciences of Development and Cooperation) cat. – 66 kg, Erica Simonetti (SUISM) cat. + 78 kg, Ludovica Franzosi (SUISM) cat. – 70 kg and Michela Fiorini (SUISM) cat. – 48kg; in Karate, gold to Federica Schicchi (Chemistry), cat. – 50kg.
Gold also went to the men’s rugby 7 team with UniTo athletes Andrej Bogdan Andreica (Political and Social Sciences), Christian Sangiorgi (Forestry and Environmental Sciences), Matteo Cruciani (Veterinary), Edoardo Parlanti Garbero (Law), Edward Reeves (SUISM) , George Reeves (Captain – SUISM), Lorenzo Tucconi (SUISM), and Alessandro Paltanin (Chemistry and Chemical Technologies).
Finally, gold in the men’s tennis doubles went to Andrea Cardella (SUISM), awarded with his partner Andrea Cherchi (Management Engineering – Turin Polytechnic).
4 silvers: Samuele Masiani (SUISM) in discus throwing, Erika Paris (Chemistry and Chemical Technologies) in javelin throwing, Althea Secchi (Biological Sciences) in women’s wrestling cat. 70 kg and Marzia Cena (Business Economics) in fencing (sword).
10 bronze medals: in athletics Enrico Oddone (Economics and Management) stands out in the 5,000 meters and Gioele Buzzanca (SUISM) in the shot put; in judo Luca Rubeca (SUISM) cat. – 73 kg and Simona Posillipo (Chemistry) cat. – 78kg; in Greco-Roman wrestling cat. 120 kg Francesco Gorgone (SUISM) and in taekwondo Carlotta Bonetto (Medicine and Surgery) in the cat. 57kg; in the men’s doubles tennis Daniele Iamunno (Languages of Asia and Africa for International Communication and Cooperation) with his partner Davide Aschieri (PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering – Polytechnic of Turin); always in tennis Beatrice Ottone (Work and Organizational Psychology) won the bronze in both the women’s singles and doubles, with her partner Federica Joe Gardella (Architecture, History and Design – Turin Polytechnic).
Bronze also for the men’s futsal team, made up of UniTo athletes Lorenzo Garofano (SAA), Mattia Caporaso (Historical Studies), Davide Guzzi (SUISM), Alessandro Patti (Economic, social and mathematical-statistical sciences), Francesco Corrieri ( SAA), Giuseppe Cerone (Economic-Social Sciences and Mathematics-Statistics), Walid Assouli (Law) and Ettore Favole (Communication Sciences).
