With the Day of the Mechelen Sports Clubs, the city of Mechelen wants to put the local sports landscape in the spotlight. During this special day in sports hall Iham, twenty clubs are ready to charm sports enthusiasts and passers-by with their activities. They do this by means of information stands, demonstrations and challenges. A conscious decision was made to have the sports market take place in June. Many clubs are already busy with their membership recruitment.

“The focus is on interactivity and promotion,” says Sportschip Abdrahman Labsir (Vld-Groen-m+). “In addition to bite-sized information and fun encounters, you can get a taste of a wide variety of sports. The clubs organize creative demos and initiations at random moments. In addition, challenges run like a red thread throughout the day. By participating, you get to know as many sports as possible and you score a full stamp card. You will find out on Sunday what exactly that entails.”

The city receives support from Sport Vlaanderen for the Day of the Mechelen Sports Clubs. “Because sport makes you grow physically, mentally and socially,” says Labsir. “Moreover, for many it is a fun and much-needed outlet. It helps to channel feelings and thoughts. Our sports clubs play a very important role in this. The sports market gives them the chance to win as many sports hearts as possible on Sunday.”

You can also enjoy a drink in the cafeteria of Iham and there is fringe entertainment such as a bouncy castle and folk games. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. you can get acquainted with numerous sports for free in the sports hall. Among other things, fencing, badminton, basketball, track and field, gymnastics and even cheerleading are represented.
