Tom Beugelsdijk’s Contract with Helmond Sport Dissolved: A Disappointing Year for the Defender

Tom Beugelsdijk (32) signed a three-year contract with Helmond Sport last summer with great expectations. A year (containing only thirteen matches) later, however, the Brabant adventure is over for the former player of ADO Den Haag and Sparta Rotterdam.

The club reports Tuesday morning through the official channels that Beugelsdijk’s contract has been dissolved ‘in good consultation’. This soon ends his period in Helmond, which certainly did not turn out as club and player had hoped. Beugelsijk has not played a minute for Helmond Sport since December 12 last year; his departure is therefore not completely out of the blue.

The defender started the season with a suspension for betting on matches in competitions in which he himself played. The KNVB even investigated whether he was guilty of match fixing, but found no evidence for this. Because of the proven facts, he still had to watch three matches, after which he was able to make his debut in the fourth round. In December, however, he played his last minutes in the shirt of Helmond Sport.

When the contract is terminated, Beugelsdijk receives an unknown amount of money. On the club site he comes with a short statement: “I want to thank the club, the staff, the players and the supporters and wish them every success in the future.” Helmond Sport also expresses itself in similar terms: “Helmond Sport thanks Tom for his achievements and wishes him every success in the future.”
