After less than half a year in Bochum, he is now moving on and has earned a chance in the Bundesliga with his appearances: He moves to the BBL to the Basketball-Löwen Braunschweig, the club of NBA star Dennis Schröder. The 23-year-old is the first player from the Sparkasse Stars to switch directly to the Bundesliga without an intermediate stop.
With “lots of love and gratitude” Crockett says goodbye after a “fantastic” time in Bochum with a video message. He will never forget the fans – it’s the end of a short but intense relationship between the US Guard and the Bochum second division team. In a good four months he left his mark.
TJ Crockett made a mighty impression in four months
Just before Christmas, Crockett came from Turkey to the Sparkasse Stars, who were deep in the bottom of the table. Crockett played a major role in the fact that the stars rolled up the field from behind in the spring, regularly caused ecstasy in the circular sports hall and almost made it into the playoffs: In 22 games for Bochum, Crockett scored an average of 18.5 points – the best cut in the league.
He managed to combine effectiveness and show and never ceased to amaze not only the fans but also those responsible in Bochum. “We’ll watch that 200 more times,” commented managing director Tobias Steinert once after Crockett had launched an alley-oop-dunking himself – “incredible”. He was voted one of the best players in ProA (1st team and all-import team) by the Eurobasket.vom portal. No wonder Crockett was unstoppable for the second division side.
Chance in the Bundesliga deserved.
“He almost carried us to the playoffs,” says Steinert in retrospect, and wishes the “very fine guy” all the best. Head coach Felix Banobre says: “I am very grateful for his charismatic performance and wish him the best of luck for his well-deserved chance in Germany’s top division.”
They are happy in Braunschweig: “TJ fits very well into our concept. He’s a young and motivated player, hungry to develop and work hard for it. We have no hesitation in believing that TJ is capable of making the leap into the BBL and we look forward to working with him,” says Löwen managing director and sports director Nils Mittmann.
