In the search for reinforcements, FC Augsburg has again struck gold with a second division team from last season. Defensive midfielder Tim Breithaupt is moving from Karlsruher SC to the Fuggerstadt team.

“We are very pleased that Tim Breithaupt has decided to move to FC Augsburg despite numerous other offers,” said Stefan Reuter, FCA’s sporting director in the build-up and exudes an incredible calmness on the ball.”

Breithaupt is “very mature for his age and has extreme potential – so I’m sure he’ll quickly get used to the high level in the Bundesliga and give our fans a lot of joy,” predicts Reuter.

Born in Offenburg, he joined the KSC youth team from the SC Freiburg youth team in 2017, where he matured into an integral part of the professional team. In 2021/22 he was already one of the absolute regular players (33 appearances), in the past season he even played the first 24 competitive games of the season for KSC – all from the start – before a broken ankle slowed him down in the second half of the season.

Now, at the age of 21 and after 63 games for Karlsruher SC (two goals, five assists), the next step in the career of the seven-time Germany U-20 international follows. In Augsburg, Breithaupt signed for five years until 2028.

Cash rain for the KSC

Since the 1.92 meter man still had a contract with KSC until 2024, a transfer fee is also due. According to kicker information, FCA will transfer 2.5 million euros to the second division. In its press release, KSC writes of a “contractual exit clause” that includes “a fixed transfer fee”.

“It was my great wish to take the next step in my career this summer, and I am firmly convinced that FC Augsburg is the right address for this,” says Breithaupt: “The discussions with those responsible and also with the Coaches give me a very good feeling for the coming season and I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and meet my new team-mates.”

FC Augsburg had previously signed Patric Pfeiffer (SV Darmstadt 98), Finn Dahmen (1. FSV Mainz 05) and Sven Michel (Union Berlin).
