This NFL player admits to betting on his team’s games

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is in trouble for making sports bets, including on his team’s games.

On Monday, the ESPN network revealed that the NFL was investigating the 25-year-old athlete. He then admitted his wrongdoing in a message posted on his Twitter account.

“I take full responsibility for my actions,” he said. I know that I made mistakes and I am ready to do everything to correct the situation. The last thing I want is to be a distraction to the Colts organization, my coaches and my teammates.”

“I made an error in judgment and I will make sure to work hard to rectify the situation. It’s an honor to play in the NFL and I never took that for granted. I’m really sorry about all of this.”

In the NFL, it is obviously forbidden for players to bet on the results of matches on the circuit. A league athlete cannot bet on competitions as soon as he is in his team’s facilities.

Heavy penalty to come?

Rodgers made bets from an associate’s account. He would have made about a hundred bets, the majority of which would have involved stakes ranging from $25 to $50. However, the footballer would have made at least one bet over $1,000.

Drafted in the sixth round of the 2020 auction, Rodgers has played in more than 40% of the Colts’ defensive plays over the past two seasons and has kicked returns. He is due to play the final year of his rookie contract this season. This was to allow him to receive $ 3.4 million.

With these revelations, it would be surprising if the University of Massachusetts product played a single game in 2023. Last year, Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended indefinitely for betting on games from the NFL that did not involve his team. He missed the entire 2022 campaign and is currently going through the process that will allow him to return to action soon.

The Goodell circuit could also decide to go with a “Pete Rose” punishment in the case of Rodgers. In 1989, Major League Baseball suspended the Cincinnati Reds manager for life for betting on his team’s games.
