The Rise and Fall of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Big Three: Sacrificing the Future for Immediate Success

On June 26, 2014, the Cavaliers drafted Andrew Wiggins. (the new LeBron) in first place in the Draft. Two months later, they closed a historic three-way transfer for which they sent him, along with Anthony Bennett (number 1 of 2013) to the Timberwolves in exchange for getting someone most coveted for his certainty of immediate performance: Kevin Love.

Thus, in exchange for sacrificing the future, the Cavs obtained a Big Three which included three full players (Lebron, 29 years old, Love 25, Irving, 22) capable of competing for everything and for several years. There were 4 consecutive NBA Finals and a champion ring. David Griffin flattened him, invented a shortcut in the middle of the highway and blew up the bank.

The Portland Trail Blazers, a team that we can classify as the biggest failure in the West in the 2022/23 season (they were aiming for the playoffs and finished third from bottom) have just drafted Scoot Henderson in position three. Maximum candidate for ROY and the graduate, all the portals agree, more prepared to perform in the NBA from the day of his debut.

At the other end of the board we have Damian Lillard, who is less than a month shy of his 33rd birthday. His prime His hours are numbered (two more years at the most; not all of them age like LeBron), and in the current Portland squad there is no one except him capable of leading, in the short term, a squad with ring airs. Maybe (and just maybe) Afernee Simons would also help out on the job.
