The event is sponsored by the China Badminton Association and undertaken by the Shiyan Sports Bureau. The competition is divided into four groups: regular event group, doubles mixed age group, veteran doubles group, and happy doubles group. There are 5 competitions including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Although it is a middle-aged and elderly badminton game, many players on the field have gray hair, but they are full of energy when playing. In the 16 badminton courts, the players kept shouting, and the cheers of relatives, friends and teammates outside the court kept coming and going.
In recent years, the number of sports venues in Shiyan has been increasing, and more and more citizens have joined in badminton exercises. By the end of 2022, the city has 95 badminton halls with a badminton court area of 195,000 square meters, creating good basic conditions for the fitness of badminton enthusiasts, the training of young badminton players, and the concentrated training of professional players.
It is reported that since its establishment in 1986, the National Middle-Aged Badminton Invitational Tournament has been successfully held 34 times across the country, attracting a large number of middle-aged and elderly badminton enthusiasts to participate, becoming the largest, highest-level, widest-ranging, and most organized middle-aged and elderly competition in China. The badminton event has been included in the national national fitness event plan.
