The French 3×3 team qualified for the European Cup!

Forced to go through a qualifying tournament in Bratislava, the French men’s team qualified for the 3×3 European Cup which will take place in Jerusalem (Israel) from September 5 to 7, 2023.

A week after their quarter-final loss to the United States at the 3×3 World Cup, the Blues largely dominated the debates during the European Cup qualifying tournament which took place this weekend in Bratislava ( Slovakia).

Despite the capricious weather and the relocation of the event indoors, the tricolor quartet made up of Timothé Vergiat, Lucas Dussoulier, Hugo Suhard and Léopold Cavalière remained focused on their objective. After an expeditious first day where Karim Souchu’s men spent barely fifteen minutes on the pitch against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Turkey (21-12 and 21-17), the Blues successively dismissed Slovakia (22-10) then the Czech Republic (17-14) to score their ticket to Jerusalem.

The French men’s 3×3 team will thus return to the main round of the European Cup after missing the 2022 edition. Bronze medalist at the 2022 World Cup, Strasbourg’s Léopold Cavalière finished as his team’s top scorer with 6.75 points per game for his return to the blue jersey.

“I am very happy because we had two very good days, underlines Karim Souchu, coach of the French men’s 3×3 team in a press release. In this qualifying tournament, we managed to form a competitive team with players that I picked up late. It wasn’t easy but they played the game, with shortened preparation and special playing conditions, but we went for this qualification. Now, we’re going to savor it before quickly switching to the next summer events. »

As a reminder, the French women’s 3×3 team is already guaranteed to take part in the main phase of the European Cup as defending champions and the world’s number one nation in the FIBA ranking.
