Caroline Wozniacki was once the best in tennis. Then she broke up, is now a mother of two – and now she wants to go back and be a competitive athlete again.

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki wants to return to the big tennis stage. More than three years after her last professional match at the Australian Open 2020, the 32-year-old Dane announced her comeback as an active tennis player.

She will first open in Montreal in August and then play the US Open, she said in an article in the magazine “Vogue”. After that, she has a few months to prepare for the Australian Open. The Summer Olympics in Paris in 2024 are definitely a goal.

Wozniacki is aggressive

“In the past three years away from the game I’ve been able to make up for lost time with my family, I’ve become a mother and now have two beautiful children for whom I’m so grateful,” Wozniacki wrote on Instagram. “But I still have goals that I want to achieve. I want to show my kids that you can achieve your dreams, regardless of age or role.” As a family, they decided it was the right time to make a comeback.

Wozniacki is considered one of the greatest sports stars Denmark has ever produced. She sealed her departure from tennis in April 2022 with a farewell show match against Angelique Kerber in Copenhagen. The Dane was at the top of the women’s world rankings for a total of 71 weeks in her career, and in Australia she celebrated her only Grand Slam victory to date in 2018.

In “Vogue” she made it clear that more Grand Slam titles could be added. “Can I win the US Open? I think so. Can I win the Australian Open? I think so. That’s why I’m doing it,” she said.
