Interviewed by Prensa Latina regarding her presence at the XXIV edition of this regional event, with venues in San Salvador (the main one) and Santo Domingo from June 23 to July 8, Oropesa expressed great joy for the current moment and the future.

I feel very happy to be back in the national team and to see that I am still in good sporting shape, said the only woman from Cuba who will participate in the badminton tournament of the aforementioned multidisciplinary event, whose origin dates back to 1926.

The 27-year-old female and almost a decade between rackets and shuttlecocks, will be accompanied in the Salvadoran capital by Roberto Carlos Herrera, the male representative of the largest of the Antilles and with whom she will play in the modality for both sexes.

I want to get two medals, one in the individual competition and the other in the mixed competition, that is my forecast, confessed the young woman, who will be in her third Central American and Caribbean Games after attending the events of Veracruz 2014 and Barranquilla 2018, in Mexico and Colombia, respectively.

Of those contests, to which Cuba attended with a complete cast, Oropesa treasures seven medals, distributed in two gold (mixed and women’s doubles), three silver (individual, mixed and team) and two bronze (mixed and team). .

Now we are training two sections in the western province of Pinar del Río, in the morning and afternoon, we will not have any competition prior to the Games; but we remain highly motivated to achieve the proposed objectives, he explained.

As the main individual rivals in the close competition, Oropesa mentioned the Guatemalan Nikté Sotomayor and the Mexicans Sabrina Solis and Haramara Gaitán, the latter the current two-monarch and third place in Mayagüez 2010, in Puerto Rico.

On the other hand, the Cuban, a native of the eastern territory of Holguín, highlighted the support of family members and her best friend to achieve goals in sports and beyond competitive scenarios.

Their support is essential for me, whenever I am sad or discouraged they manage to get me out of that situation, they give me a lot of strength when it comes to fighting for what I want, she specified.

He also praised the work of his coaches, who, he added, “support me a lot, that gives me confidence, I am very happy with them and also with the current national commissioner, Orlando Cala.”

So, badminton fans will wait less than a month to find out if Oropesa, the same woman who dreams of going to the Olympic Games in Paris next year, was able to extend her harvest of triumphs in the oldest regional multi-sport events in the world.
