Super Mega Baseball 4: A Familiar but Fun Addition to the Franchise

Actually, when a new version of a video game that belongs to a sports franchise comes out, we know in advance that we cannot expect great evolutions, beyond the update of templates and uniforms, additional game modes and some polished graphics that allow it to be seen a little better than its predecessor and also runs better.

Super Mega Baseball 4 It’s the first release in the series in three years, and coming back to this arcade-driven baseball title has felt incredibly familiar. This is not bad, or not at all, because if you have played any of its predecessors you will know that fun is guaranteed, and if it is the first time you enter the diamond in this game distributed by EA, adjust your loot well and take your turn. to the bat, because surely you will spend a pleasant time.

It’s not like the Metalhead Software team hasn’t added anything in the last three years. The most significant addition is the inclusion of more than 200 legendary players from Major League Baseball history. We go through authentic old school legends like Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron to more recent cult figures like Randy Johnson, Jorge Posada and Bartolo Colón to name just a few. Truly this is a real treat if you are a true baseball fan who might enjoy these players depicted in the over the top art style of Super Mega Baseball .

The lineup of each team ends up being completed with the fun characters full of personality that the development team has created throughout this series. You can play how you play: whether to build teams of pure legends of yesteryear or of pure generic players of the title, or make a mix between the two, which is the option that I take mostly. Of course we don’t have teams from the MLB or any other real league, they are all fictitious.

Now, regarding the gameplay we can say that Super Mega Baseball 4 it continues to walk the fine line between feeling like a baseball sim and still being laid back and approachable. Its arcade-style gameplay leaves plenty of room to hit a ton of home runs and throw implausible pitches, but at the same time, it respects all the basic rules of the king of sports and maintains its essence. This is a title full of personality that is very entertaining. It’s one of those games that you can enjoy with people who aren’t regulars at video games and have a great time with them on a pizza night.

All the classic game modes from the franchise are here. Season mode, exhibition games, online matches and franchise, where you will form your own team as a general manager to lead the franchise you represent to success. It all has a very familiar ring to it, but all well done. The most significant addition to Super Mega Baseball 4 may be the new Shuffle Draft mode, which is one of the most interesting draft options I’ve seen in a sports game.

It’s a true Fantasy-style draft mode, where you’ll build a new team from scratch by having each team pick players one at a time, but unlike most of these modes, you’re presented with eight options for each round to choose from. These options are a combination of some of the best players available, as well as some who are a level below that but might fit your team. This is very useful for those who may not be as familiar with the ins and outs of building a baseball lineup, guiding you through the tough decisions.

verdict

Super Mega Baseball 4 It’s more of the same, but when we talk about a series that dominates what it does, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The mechanics are entertaining as always and seeing a bunch of baseball legends take the field should grab the attention of both new players and existing fans of the series.
