Sergio Rico wakes up from a coma after a serious riding accident

PSG goalkeeper Sergio Rico has woken up from a coma. This was confirmed by his wife Alba Silva to the Spanish television station Telecinco.

“Sergio is taking small steps forward and the truth is that we are already seeing the light a little more,” said Silva. “I knew from the start that he was going to make it because he’s a champion. Thanks to the hospital and the healthcare staff who behave incredibly not just towards Sergio but towards all the patients.”

Rico, substitute keeper at French champions PSG, suffered a craniocerebral trauma in a riding accident at the end of May and was placed in an induced coma. Paris Saint-Germain then suspended its championship celebration.

Rico was trained by FC Sevilla in his youth and switched to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2019, first on loan and a year later. The 29-year-old was loaned to RCD Mallorca for the second half of the 2021/22 season. Rico has not yet played for PSG this season.
