Sebastian Korda expects good chances in Wimbledon

Having recovered from his wrist problems, Sebastian Korda seems to be gradually getting back to his best form. After all, the American is already in the quarterfinals of the ATP 500 tournament in London’s Queen’s Club after two convincing performances against Dan Evans and Frances Tiafoe.

Korda initially had to fight hard on clay after his roughly three-month injury break. The 22-year-old was only able to win a match at the French Open in Paris, where he failed in round two at Austrian Sebastian Ofner. On the other hand, Korda obviously feels at home on grass in his first tournament of the current calendar year.

“I’m very confident on grass. I move really well and I definitely have a game that not many people have,” Korda said confidently after beating Tiafoe. He can also be expected in Wimbledon: “I’m an aggressive player, I like to come on the net and have a good touch. I definitely have the feeling that I’m one of the favorites in Wimbledon.”

However, Korda could meet an absolute top man early on in the classic lawn in London. The American, who now relies on ex-Thiem physio Jez Green when it comes to fitness, is “only” 32nd in the world rankings. Further victories in the Queen’s Club would therefore not only be worth their weight in gold for the already strong self-confidence. In the quarterfinals, Korda meets Cameron Norrie.
