Schwarber home run leads Phillies to 1-0 win over Tigers | Sports

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Kyle Schwarber led off the game with a home run Taijuan Walker pitched seven shutout innings and the Philadelphia Phillies won their fourth consecutive victory, 1-0 over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.

Walker (5-3) allowed two hits, Seranthony Dominguez pitched the eighth and Craig Kimbrel completed the work of three hits, striking out all three for his ninth save in as many chances. The Phillies, champions of the National League, thus approached three games from the .500 mark (29-32).

Miguel Cabrera had the only extra-base hit for the Tigers, a one-out double in the fifth inning. Detroit has lost all five games of a series that consists of six and that concludes this Wednesday in Philadelphia.

Four Tigers pitchers limited the Phillies to three hits, but it was the first that made the difference, in a game that lasted just two hours and seven minutes.

Schwarber found a fastball from Tyler Alexander (1-1) on a 2-2 count and fumbled to right-center in the first inning. It was his 16th home run of the season and his third this month.

For the Tigers, Puerto Rican Javier Báez 4-1. Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera 2-1. Cuban Andy Ibáñez 1-0.

For the Phillies, no Latin Americans hit.
