Saul Canelo Alvarez’s Next Fight: Potential Showdown with Jermall Charlo

Undisputed world super middleweight champion Saul Canelo Alvarez takes to the ring in September with his next potential opponent to be Jermall Charlo. Saul Canelo Alvarez’s next fight is with Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) Al Haymon.

The Mexican superstar announced in a short video posted to his Instagram account on Thursday afternoon that his next fight in September will be presented by PBC. The undisputed super middleweight world champion did not say who his opponent would be, but Canelo and Eddy Reynoso, his coach and manager, reportedly met with Haymon recently to discuss the possibility of facing undefeated WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo.

Jermall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) hasn’t fought in two years, but the Houston native has long wanted to fight Saul Canelo Alvarez (59-2-2, 39 KOs). Charlo has also repeatedly expressed his desire to move up from the 72.5 kg middleweight limit to the maximum 76.2 kg super middleweight for the lucrative opportunity.

Whether he will fight Jermall Charlo or someone else, Canelo’s next fight will headline Showtime’s Pay-Per-View event. Saul Canelo Alvarez had a positive experience working with PBC and Showtime in stopping former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant in the 11th round in November 2021 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, United States.

However, he returned to team up with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and DAZN for the next three fights.
