The team QJ MOTOR GRESINI RACING and Filip Salač completed another difficult qualification. In the morning’s last free practice, he recorded the third best time and managed to break the eight-year-old track record together with several riders. With the third place in the combined measurement, Filip moved straight into the second part of the qualification and once again proved that he can keep up with the absolute world leaders of Moto2. However, he was unable to improve his time from the morning training and will start the race in the same way as a week ago from the fifth row.

In the qualifying fifteen minutes, Filip overtook several riders and lost valuable tenths by overtaking. The temperatures in Assen rose significantly from the morning, and together with them, the problems with the loss of grip on the front wheel appeared again. The last timed lap at the end of qualifying was ended by a yellow flag and Filip’s best time of 1’36.850 was only enough for thirteenth place.

“The morning was noticeably cooler and I managed to get a decent lap on both used and new tyres,” stated Filip Salač and continued: “But the afternoon was even hotter than yesterday and we knew it wasn’t going to be ideal for us. Again we struggled with grip on the front wheel, and I was riding in a bunch of riders and we were limited by yellow flags several times. So we were not very lucky today. But the most important thing is setting up the bike for tomorrow’s race.”

“It is clear that we have not yet managed to find a recipe for a setup at high temperatures, which is understandably very limiting now during the summer. So we’re going to try a big edit for tomorrow. We’ll use last year’s frame and forks and see if it’s better or not. We have nothing to lose because with the current set-up I would start to lose a lot after a few laps and it would be hard for us to fight for points. We’ll see, I hope it works” added Salač.
