FC Bayern Munich is busy working on the squad for the coming season. After Konrad Laimer, the next transfer has been on the horizon for days, which Karl-Heinz Rummenigge blurted out on the sidelines of the Champions League final in Istanbul.

Bayern’s first summer transfer was an open secret for a long time, but on Friday Munich got down to business. Konrad Laimer signed a contract on Säbener Straße until June 30, 2027. In addition to the Leipzig midfielder, other seasoned professionals are to be brought to the Bavarian capital.

Raphael Guerreiro has also been a hot candidate since the end of the Bundesliga season. The Portuguese international did not extend his contract with Borussia Dortmund, which expired on June 30. He was once Thomas Tuchel’s favorite student in Dortmund, but afterwards an intended reunion at Paris Saint-Germain did not work out.

I think we’ve got good players in Guerreiro and Laimer.

But now a reunion is imminent. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who has been part of the supervisory board at FC Bayern again since the end of May, made no big secret of this on the sidelines of the Champions League final in Istanbul.

When asked about potential transfers, the 67-year-old said: “The transfer market is starting now, every club is trying to improve its team a bit. What was noticeable last year: Lewandowski was given away, that was at least 50 goals across all competitions that you were missing. I think something will have to be done about that. But take it easy on the rest. I think we’ve got good players in Guerreiro and Laimer. I like Laimer very much, very physical, very aggressive , he fits in well with the midfield we have now.”

Laimer’s move was already official, but no one at Bayern had made such an offensive statement about Guerreiro. A timely announcement can therefore be expected. A three-year contract with a term until June 30, 2026 had already been discussed. Guerreiro is versatile and – which should definitely also play a role in the transfer – is strong with standards.

Guerreiro played 162 Bundesliga games in the BVB jersey (football average score 3.43) and, with 30 goals and 43 assists, proved that he is one of the most offensive left-backs in the league. He won the DFB Cup in 2017 and 2021, and the DFL Supercup in 2019. Guerreiro’s hopes of saying goodbye with the league title were dashed on the last day of the game.
