Roland-Garros: despite their fine run, Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen lost in the men’s doubles final

On Saturday evening, the Limburg duo, who were playing their first Grand Slam final, could not avoid defeat in the final on Court Philippe-Chatrier against the pair ranked N.4, and composed by the Croatian Ivan Dodig (ATP 8) and American Austin Krajicek (ATP 5). This one won in two sets: 6-3 and 6-1 and 1h20 of play.

A single break decided the fate of the initial round in the 8th game, Gillé losing his face-off (5-3). The second set was faster Dodig and Krajicek seizing the services of Gillé then Vliegen to escape at 4-1. The Belgians missed twice 4-2 and the Croatian-American duo then raced to their first Grand Slam title together.

Dodig and Krajicek thus took their revenge for their defeat in the final on clay in Paris last year against Salvadoran Marcelo Arévalo and Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer 6-7 (4/7), 7-6 (7/5 ), 6-3.

Dodig, 38, has already won at Roland-Garros in 2015 (with Marcelo Melo) and at the Australian Open in 2021 (with Filip Polasek). Krajicek won his first Grand Slam title in men’s doubles at the age of 32.
