Roger Grimau He will be the Barça coach for the next two seasons. This has been announced by the culé team in the same statement in which they confirmed the departure of Sarunas Jasikevicius after three seasons leading the team.

This is how Barça presented Roger Grimau:

«Roger Grimau has been the coach of the juniors and of Barça Atlètic in the last two seasons, in which he has formed a tandem with Víctor Sada. Previously, since 2018, he had been the assistant coach of the second team in LEB Oro and LEB Plata.

Grimau, 44, has achieved great results with the junior team -recently in the Next Generation Tournament- and also with the subsidiary, with which he was proclaimed champion of the EBA League in the 2021/22 academic year.

In addition, young values like Dame Sarr y Kasparas Jakucionis have made their debut this season with the first team, while others who have passed through their hands as James Nnaji -recently chosen the number 31 of the Draft-, Rafa Villar, Michael Caicedo, Agus Ubal or Gael Bonilla They have also enjoyed minutes with the first team

Before his retirement in 2015, Grimau had an extensive career that saw him make his debut in the Endesa League in 1996 with Joventut. Later he headed for Lleida with which he played in the Eurocup and where he made a hole for himself to play in Eurobasket 2003 with the national team. That same year he would go to Barça where he would stay until 2011, raising 10 titles (one Euroleague, three Copas del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups and four Endesas League) and becoming team captain. Later he would play for Bilbao Basket and BAXI Manresa, a total of 17 seasons in the Endesa League.

Curiously, Roger Grimau still holds the record as the player for the most free kicks taken without a miss in a Eurocup match. He did it in October 2002 when he shot 19 of 19 in a game in which he had 26 points and a PIR of 29. A perfect 100%.
