The Bundesliga duo no longer has to fear two more solvent competitors for the former Freiburg player, who moved to Leeds in 2020 for a fee of 13 million euros. Manchester United and Newcastle United, which are said to be also interested, are not an option for the 26-year-old despite the financial temptations.
The reason: Koch, who has developed into a mentality and leadership player in the three years in England, would also like to take on the position of a leader at his future club. This would not be realistic for a top Premier League club, where he would probably only be planned as a backup. In Frankfurt or Leverkusen, on the other hand, there is the possibility of a regular place and a realizable claim to leadership.

In addition to these key arguments, the Bundesliga offers another advantage for Koch that completes the picture: the defensive all-rounder, who can also play as a six, would be more in the focus of the national coach as a regular in Germany than as a back-up at ManUnited, for example.
