Román Carbajo has passed away at 55 years of age and Biscayan basketball is left without one of its most beloved players. He was part of that Caja Bilbao that rose to the ACB (1986-1991) and that raised many illusions in the eighties, which also included the unforgettable Kopicki, Lockart, Davalillo, Mikel Cuadra, Koldo Mauraza, Lafuente… Also He later played for Baskonia (1992-93) and Ourense (1993-96), Breogán and Andorra, as well as being a junior and sub’22 international. One of the best memories of him is the call by coach Antonio Díaz Miguel to be part of the senior team, whose shirt he wore three times.
Carbajo made contact with the world of the basket in his own neighborhood, San Francisco, had a brief stint in Askartza and ended up at the Maristas-Patronato, the cradle of great players from Biscay. From there he took the step to Caja Bilbao, banner of the resurrection of Biscayan basketball in the highest category after a long period without teams in the elite. He was always faithful to his origins and stood out for his work and a good mid-range shot. He fought with any rival on defense and asserted his 2.04 meters and a remarkable wingspan near the basket, where he stood out for his rebounding power. With the colors of Caja he came to score 23 points against Baskonia (18-3-1989). In the ACB he played 243 games and scored 1,814 points,
