Red Bull continues to win after the death of the founder of the brand. His “little boy” is in for a revolution

The results of the Formula 1 teams Red Bull and AlphaTauri are playing out as two completely different stories this year. They belong to the same owner. It also owns the Red Bull Ring, where the Austrian Grand Prix will take place this weekend.

It’s like a fairy tale about two completely different brothers. While one shines and succeeds in everything he touches, the other is struggling in a corner and wondering why he is not doing well.

It sounds like a cliché, but in the case of two stables paid for by beverage giant Red Bull, the truth is cruelly true to this story.

The team bearing the name of the most widespread energy drink in the world beats the competition. Max Verstappen has his sights set on a third consecutive world title, in the Constructors’ Cup Red Bull scored 13 points, double the profit of the second Mercedes. No car other than the one with the Red Bull logo on the hood has won the Grand Prix this year.

AlphaTauri is languishing in last place in the team rankings, with the underfunded Williams leapfrogging it after Montreal. The team, named after the clothing brand of the Red Bull concern, has so far only two points behind Yuki Cunoda’s two tenth places. Rookie Nyck de Vries is still waiting for points, so he is at risk of something completely normal in these pits – being fired in the middle of the season.

Although there have been communication disagreements between Red Bull’s new CEO Oliver Mintzlaff and 80-year-old team mentor Helmut Mark following the death of Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, who passed away at the end of October, the concern’s A is running like clockwork.

“Red Bull Racing has always been very independent,” said the veteran Austrian manager, who discovered both Sebastian Vettel and Verstappen for the team.

What he regrets the most is that the time when he immediately picked up the phone after every training session and race and discussed what was happening on the track with his friend Mateschitz is over. “A direct, personal and friendly relationship no longer exists. Didi (Mateschitz) was a visionary, he had emotions,” he recalled the person of the Austrian billionaire.

While a winning formula is being prepared in the British Milton Keynes, they are looking for mistakes in Faenza, Italy. And that a lot of them were chopped before this season.

The team leader is the first to “jump” it in AlphaTauri. Franz Tost, who ruled the stable for an incredible 18 years. It will end with the end of this season. Instead of the Austrian, French engineer Laurent Mekies, who worked at the Scuderia as race director, will come from Ferrari as team boss. However, outgoing FIA General Secretary Peter Bayer will also be involved in the decision-making process in the role of executive director.

Changes will come not only in terms of personnel, but also marketing and technical. “There will be new sponsors and also a new name. The orientation is clear: if the regulations allow it, it will be based on the Red Bull Racing team. The ‘do it yourself’ construction was a dead end,” Marko told the Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung.

Red Bull thus silenced voices speculating that it intends to sell its “B” car. However, it is possible that its main center will move from Italy to Great Britain to be closer to the base of the Red Bull Racing team. This makes sense logistically and economically.

“The decision has been made. AlphaTauri will remain fully owned by Red Bull and will continue to be run as a junior team,” confirmed Marko.

Now both teams are literally waiting for their home Grand Prix, because the circuit hosting this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix belongs to Red Bull. The track in Spielberg has been called the Red Bull Ring for 12 years.
