PSV confirms Peter Bosz as new trainer: this is what the club can expect

Attacking, dominant and attractive. Those are words that you often hear Peter Bosz say when it comes to his style of play. And those are not loose words for the new trainer of PSV. It’s a philosophy.

An example that fits his philosophy is the 5-second rule. That rule means that if he loses the ball he wants to win it back within five seconds by applying high pressure. The four nearest players must put pressure on the opponent in possession.

Another important facet in Bosz’s playing style is that the distances are small defensively. That was precisely what was lacking at PSV last year. The spaces between the attack and the defense were very large under Ruud van Nistelrooij. It was also one of the reasons it was lost to smaller clubs.

With Bosz, such a situation seems unthinkable because he needs the small spaces to apply the 5-second rule.

Risks
To do justice to his philosophy, a lot has to change in the selection. In terms of thought, but also in the type of players. The latter also ensured that the negotiations took a little longer. Bosz would like to be sure that he can get the type of players that fit his philosophy.

The philosophy will undoubtedly lead to fans in Eindhoven going to the Philips Stadium with great pleasure. But it also carries a risk. Four weeks after the start of the preparations, the first match in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League awaits.

That learning the philosophy takes time becomes clear when you look at Bosz’s previous clubs. At his last club Olympique Lyon, many statements can be found that it took time to learn the style of play. After a goal against in the preparation, Bruno Guimaraes said the following. “The goal comes from a wrong pass by the goalkeeper. A lot changes with this coach. He has completely different ideas. We play more on possession and we are now paying the price for that.”
