Player hits ball girl with tennis ball – match abandoned

On Sunday, women’s doubles were on the program at the French Open. One match had to be ended prematurely.

At the French Open, the third-round doubles between the duos Bouzková/Sorribes Tormo and Katō/Sutjiadi has been broken off. When the score was 6:7, 3:1, the Japanese Miyu Katō hit a ball girl. She was then disqualified with her partner.

Katō backhanded the ball to the other side of the court after a point was played. The ball girl, who already had both hands full with balls, saw them fly towards her, was able to turn her face away, but was hit in the neck/shoulder area.

The ball girl broke down in tears, was then treated and taken off the court. The referee originally issued a warning to the two players, but after protests from Bouzková/Sorribes Tormo, the head referee was called in. And he then decided to disqualify the Asian doubles.
