Patrick Mouratoglou clarifies the nature of his collaboration with Cori Gauff

Patrick Mouratoglou stressed he was not Cori Gauff’s official coach and only agreed to assist the American during the French Open. Before the start of the clay-court season, 19-year-old Cori Gauff announced that she and her coach Diego Moyano had mutually decided to go their separate ways.

Gauff, who has been part of the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy since she was 10, later asked coach Mouratoglou for help during the French Open. “I am not Coco Gauff’s official trainer.

Coco has been part of my academy since she was 10 years old. She doesn’t have a trainer at the moment. She is going to play at Roland-Garros. So I decided, at her request, to spend time with her on the court, to help her at least for Roland-Garros,” Mouratoglou told Canal+, according to Tennis Majors.

Gauff called Mouratoglou a “perfect person”.

“We started after Madrid, and it was just during the clay season that he helped me. To be honest, I go from one trainer to another.

I haven’t really found a full-time coach. Obviously, he is still with Holger (Rune). But I have a very good relationship with Patrick. I have known him since I was 10 years old and I have already been on the pitch with him.

I thought he would be the perfect person to help me during this time. I’m looking forward to spending the next two weeks with him,” Gauff said ahead of the start of the French Open.

Gauff, vice-champion of Roland Garros in 2022, left the French Open in the quarter-finals after her defeat against Iga Swiatek (6-4 6-2). But after leaving the French Open singles event, Gauff stayed in Paris as she and her doubles partner Jessica Pegula reached the French Open women’s doubles semi-final.

After Roland-Garros, Gauff will focus on the grass season and Wimbledon. It remains to be seen if Gauff will also ask Mouraotglou to help him at Wimbledon.
