Pairs of Medals: Success for French Women in Kayak Slalom, Fencing, and Teqball at European Games

Two in kayak slalom, two in fencing, two in teqball: the medals went in pairs this Thursday in Krakow. In the lot, gold for the women’s teams of lpe and K1.

Fencing: lpe ladies to the power of 4

Gathered all together on the track after the final winning touch, they ostensibly mimed a four with their hands in front of the camera lenses. ǒCould have been the four finals disputed by the various armies of the French Team in as many team events in these European Games. It was more likely four like the number of titles of European champions in team dipping currently held by Marie-Florence Candassamy, Auriane Mallo-Breton and Coraline Vitalis, to which we will add the youngest, recent European champion in individual, Alexandra Louis-Marie. 2017, 2018, 2022 and therefore 2023: in both 2020 and 2021, editions canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the repositioning of the Olympic Games, we have obtained four victories over the last five editions of Europe for this team!

Despite the experience, despite the well-negotiated first rounds (45-17 against Lithuania, 49-36 against Israel, 45-32 against Switzerland), despite the status of favorites in the final against a resurgent Hungarian team at this level, nothing was easy. I hated this final, Coraline Vitalis even had to laugh about it. They had the fangs, it was their first final for a long time, they had nothing to lose and we got caught.

The French women were thus always led in this match (until -6 at the end of the third stint, 6-12). But they hung on, coming back five, then four, then three touches in the last five stints. When Auriane Mallo-Breton returned to the track for the last act, 28-31, I really said to myself that I had to take my time, that I had three minutes to put in three touches. The most important thing was not to rush. If we take one back, it’s been four and it’s no longer the same (to come back, editor’s note). The girls hadn’t done all that work to make me throw keys too fast!

The Hungarian Anna Kun was overtaken: victorious in this relay by 6 hits 2, Auriane Mallo-Breton offered the title to France (34-33). This last touch will have been the only moment when the French women will have been ahead in the score of the whole final We made the difference at the end because we never gave up on the attitude, commented Caroline Vitalis again. It helped a lot because we felt it with each of us. It was hard but it’s cool when it ends well!

Canoeing (ladies slalom): and all the suspense

They went through all the states. Podium contenders (and more so if they have an affinity) on paper, quick in passing times once on the water, Marjorie Delassus, Camille Prigent and Emma Vuitton were nevertheless afraid of losing everything on a missed gate at the end of the course until this disputed door is valid. Despite twice a two-second penalty, Les Bleues’ amazing time on the water (104.87) allowed them to finish in the lead with three seconds ahead of the Czech Republic, also penalized by four seconds (108.87 against 111.75), and nearly five on Germany, however, only penalizes two seconds (113.17)!

We knew that this course needed to be well on the crossings, the setting was not very high, so we had to hang on to the end despite the small penalties which were sure to fall, describes Marjorie Delassus. It is I, moreover, who takes the big pna on terminal 18 at the end of the course, which I was however convinced to have crossed well. It put us in the mood because we had to wait for the checks with the officials. There was a little delay before we could savor our victory.

We are super happy with our round, confirms Camille Prigent. We made good crossings, there was very good speed all along… There were mistakes, too. For my part, I touched door 1 so I put the team in stress from the start of the game, but we were able to pull ourselves together. At the end, the gold of the European Games, coupled with a title of European champions of which the Blue were the champions. It was a little more pressure, we had to keep it abounds Camille Prigent, who was even already a member of the French team victorious in Europe in 2019. For Marjorie, on the other hand, who lined up in C1 by teams last year, this gold medal is a first. and I’m super happy to have shared this patrol with the girls!

Fencing (men’s foil): Italy still has the last word

Yet we believed it. If Auriane and the others had been able to do it If the swordsmen the day before And if, for the third time in 24 hours, a badly embarked final tipped in favor of the Blues in the last stint? Italy were leading 40 – 33 in this top foil match when Enzo Lefort stepped forward for the final stint. The gap was significant but how not to believe it when the double individual gold medalist (2019, 2022) passed a 6/1 Daniele Garozzo to return -2?

By way of an ascent, it was rather the last stand. The Italian, Olympic champion in 2016, stopped the bleeding to conclude the collective work of his teammates (39-45). Italy keeps its title and France its status as European vice-champion, in this remake of Antalya 2022. We’re not having a bad match, we’re getting closer and closer together noted all the same Rafael Savin, whose contribution in the semi-finals against Germany will be remembered (45-43, including relays 8-5, 5-5 and 6-3 for the third of the last individual European championships).

We are on the right track, also believed Enzo Lefort. There are still small faults to correct, quite a few small things still, but the positive is that we know what we have to work on. We will continue and we will try again, from the Milan Worlds until it passes.

Teqball: two medals for a first

It was teqball’s first appearance at the European Games, and the French had marked the date for what was also a continental championship in the discipline. Fourth at the Worlds last year, Amlie Julian climbed to the second step of the podium, only beaten in the final by the Romanian Kinga Barabasi (2-0, 12/9 and 12/6), after an immaculate tournament (five previous matches, as many successes 2-0). I started my final well but at the end it was nonsense, she reacted. It’s good to have this medal but I came for the gold.

Bronze medalist after his success in the small final over Csaba Banyik (2-0, 12/11 and 12/6, a largely decent match on three double faults from the Hungarian at the end of the first set when he was leading 9/7), his Monaco Teqball Club partner Hugo Rabeux dwelt on the unusual setting in which he performed: This is the first time that teqball is present in this great competition and to win a medal is important. Work pays, and I don’t forget that this reward is not only for me, but also for all the people around me.

Canoeing (slalom): bronze for the boys

Like their female counterparts scheduled a full hour later, Titouan Castryck, Boris Neveu and Benjamin Renia were among the more than serious contenders for the medal, if not gold. But unlike Marjorie Delassus, Camille Prigent and Emma Vuitton, they were weighed down by penalties. Although they are the fastest in scratch (9358), they are thus weighted by eight additional seconds (101.58), which allows the Spaniards (97.04) and the Poles (98.48) to move ahead of them on the podium.

The outcome is slowly approaching on the badminton side. As the medal matches loom, Margot Lambert and Anne Tran are qualified for the semi-finals in doubles. Brothers Christo and Toma Junior Popov are also in the final four in doubles, as well as still in the running for the quarter-finals in singles. Delphine Delrue and Thom Gicquel finally are in the quarters of the mixed event. Injured, Qi Xuefei withdrew before his eighth singles final on Thursday.

Finalists, the Bleus du jump ski dt finished 7th in the mixed event. The composition of the tricolor quartet: Julia Clair, Valentin Foubert, Josphine Pagnier and Enzo Milesi.

Krakow archers’ week ended with three quarter-finals: those of Baptiste Addis and Jean-Charles Valladont the recurve bow, and Nicolas Girard the compound bow. The fourth male representative of the team, Nicolas Bernardi, had lost a round earlier against Baptiste Addis (6/4). French archery brought home a medal from Poland: silver in the women’s team.
