Charles Oliveira defeated Beneil Dariush by TKO in the first round at UFC 289 at Rogers Arena, Vancouver, Canada, Sunday (11/6) afternoon Indonesian time.

Buying and selling direct kicks colored the stand fight between Oliveira and Dariush in the opening round. When the fight turned to a ground fight, Dariush tried to dominate Oliveira with an attack in the form of a punch to the head.

Oliveira’s resistance was no less fierce. Apart from trying punches, the Brazilian fighter tried to lock Dariush.

When both fighters got back to their feet, a right kick from Oliveira sent Dariush reeling.

The British fighter tried to stay on his feet and put up some resistance, but Oliveira again managed to control the fight by throwing punches.

Dariush fell down and tried to play down, Oliveira was agile then able to divert the submission and continued to attack Dariush who was in a pressured position.

Oliveira was declared victorious by the referee when the fight entered a duration of 4 minutes and 10 seconds.

The victory over Dariush made Oliveira again have high ambitions to win the UFC lightweight title again after losing to Islam Makhachev in October 2022.

Now the fighter nicknamed Do Bronx has a record of 33 wins, nine defeats and one no contest.

The result against Dariush adds to Oliveira’s TKO victory streak, which has now reached nine.
